September 6-7 Devotionals

September 6 Read Daniel 1:17

As for these four young men, God gave them knowledge and skill in all literature and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

God wants us to be smart. He wants us to have knowledge. He could just hand it to us and we would instantly know all about literature, math, science, computers, language, and more. But, studying and working a little (or a lot!) to learn about things glorifies God. It shows Him that you care enough about what He wants to give you to put forth some effort to make it happen.

So, the next time you are struggling with your homework or studying for a test, remember this: God is trying to give you knowledge and skills, and your efforts are a great way to show your appreciation for His gifts.

September 7 Read 2 Timothy 3:15-17

… and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Did you ever stop to think that your school work is part of God's plan for thoroughly equipping you for every good work in your life? When you think of it that way, it helps to give us incentive to study hard and truly apply ourselves in school -- or at least it should. God is counting on us to do everything we can to help Him equip us with what we need to be complete, and that includes going to school, paying attention in class, and studying!
